Finding Something Friday: Packing Your Pitch!

Yikes! I don’t have time to find something this Friday–I’m busy packing and whatnot for an SCBWI conference!

Fortunately, I found something earlier this week that’s been quite helpful in the packing department. I found a blog post from Bubble Cow on “How to Clearly Communicate the Essence of Your Book to Agents and Publishers.”

You may or may not like the idea of piggy-backing your pitch onto a well-known construct, but it can help you squeeeze out the essence of your book, and get you started. Because packing a short, well-thought out pitch is just as important as comfy shoes and your toothbrush.

Which reminds me. I need toothpaste!
P.S. That’s Juniorest Hall, getting ready to throw a pitch. He’s WAY bigger than that now. But he’s still pretty cute!

  1. Are you wandering around like a chicken with your head cut off, or is it just me?? I feel like I should be getting bunches of stuff ready to go and just can't focus. Maybe I'll start with a shower. πŸ™‚ That's a step in the right direction, I guess. Very cute picture, by the way. I guessed he was yours and I was right! See you tonight!

  2. Ah…the day before a conference mindless wandering. I'll join the crowd of Springminglers that cannot focus today. I'm wandering, randomly sticking things in my bag and randomly taking them back out again. I know I'll forget something! Did read blog post though, and I'm thinking about how to squeeze my pitch into the shortest sentence ever. It's helping with that whole focus thing. I mean, the whole point of writing a pitch is….ooooh, shiny….

  3. I'm still ironing and packing the clothes- AAAARGGGGG!!! Will print out the pitch info and bring it with me. See you there, hope we're still on for drinks after conference stuff tonight.

  4. Did we used to be organized, focused human beings? Or does writing make you run around like a chicken with its head cut off?So, after I get the clothes out of the dryer, finish reading at least 15 pages of Princess for Hire so I can say, "Why, yes, I read that!" and stuff something in my bag, I'll see y'all.Hopefully with clean teeth. πŸ™‚

  5. Your young 'un was a cutie patootie, and I bet that hasn't changed. While you're off conferencing and hobnobbing with other writers, I'll be celebrating MY young 'un's 17th birthday. Big weekend all around! Have fun at the conference…win something big (again!) and take great notes to share with those of us who will not be hobnobbing. πŸ™‚
