Obviously, Libby (The Tiny Terror) can’t be bothered with doing much of anything on this lovely spring day. But I have been taxing my brain with Nina Amir’s (who’s currently on a WOW! tour) book, The Author Training Manual.
Goodness, it’s a thorough–and thoroughly thought-provoking–book on writing! With training exercises! (And you can win it!) But I’ll tell you all about the book when she stops here in June. For now, I’ll just pass you along to The Muffin, where I discuss a specific thought-provoking tidbit, inspired from my recent reading.
To wit: your willingness to do what it takes to make your writing a success. But you must also know what your idea of writing success is.
I know. It’s pretty heavy thinking material for such a lovely spring day. Maybe you should read something light and funny before tackling this mind-bender. Something like Susan Nees‘ Missy’s Super Duper Royal Deluxe Picture Day.

Sometimes even I’m surprised by what I’ll do . . . like fork over ooh-gobs of moola for a conference, especially one requiring me to get on an airplane. (My IBS is already acting up just thinking about it, and my pharmacist is preparing my meds as we speak. Gak.) Things are only worth what we’re willing to pay for them and no one but us can determine if the price is too high. I think for me it comes down to not ever wanting to look back and think that I could have/should have done more. Even if I never see my name on the spine of a book at least I’ll know I gave it my full effort. I may be ultimately disappointed by the outcome, but I’ll never have the regret of not giving 100%. That has to count for something, right? 🙂
I think it counts for a LOT, Lisa! How we invest our money–and more importantly, our time, points to where our heart is leading us. Like you, I’m sometimes surprised at where the road leads. But I’m always glad I took it! (And I know you will be, too. SO excited for you and your San Antonio conference!)
Your post on The Muffin got me to thinking about defining writing success. I haven’t been producing much writing lately for reasons I won’t go into, in fact, I haven’t even been blogging much. Like Libby, I feel the need to rest and pace myself. I’m hoping June will be a more productive month. And that’s what keeps me going — hope!
