What’s The Word?

DUSTY VINTAGE KEYBOARDGosh, another year? So soon?

I mean, dang. I’m still pondering. Though there’s one word–challenge– that keeps circling around in my head. I’ve pondered quite a bit on this word.

I’ve been so blessed this past year, seeing my books published, finishing a manuscript that not only I love but that my lovely agent, Karen Grencik at Red Fox Literary, loves as well. I’ve enjoyed writing retreats and conferences and getting to know so many wonderful writers. Truly, a bounty of blessings.

And yet, I wonder if I haven’t got just a wee bit complacent, writing-wise. Sticking to the sure things, shying away from the scary challenges.

You see? There’s that word again: challenge. Perhaps that needs to be my word this year, as Margo Dill wrote about in her New Year’s post over at The Muffin. Her word is “organization.”

It just so happens that despite my lack of challenge last year, I did hit my stride in organization. You can find out how in The Best And Simplest Time Savers of the Year over at The Muffin.

So here’s to a year of words. May we find all the words–or maybe just the one word– to make 2016 a winning year!

  1. I like the idea of “challenge” since I feel like I’ve gotten complacent writing-wise as well, but my word for this year is “creativity” – not only in writing but also in life! 🙂

    Happy New Year, Cathy!

  2. Hi Cathy. Love your word. I chose one too… ACCOMPLISH. There are many things I want to do this year. I think we all need to CHALLENGE ourselves to push further, learn more, and reach those stars. I’m also in the middle of ORGANIZING. Not only writing wise, but house wise. *sigh* Why can’t we wave a wand or have a house elf? Here’s to achieving all we set out to do this year!

  3. 2015 was a great year for you, writing wise. I’m so happy for you and all you’ve accomplished! I also agree that we have to keep challenging ourselves or we won’t move forward. Can’t wait to see what 2016 brings for you!

  4. Ah, yes. The scary challenges. *sigh* The speaker at the December GRW meeting talked about that and charged us with finding things to approach outside our comfort zone. One of my 2016 goals is to do one thing a month that scares the crap out of me. I’m looking forward to growth and wishing I had a prescription for Xanax. lol

  5. You really got me thinking girl!! to look at my house I need to get organized!! That is my word for 2016! HAPPY NEW YEAR to all your family, and stay healthy and safe!

  6. I need to get more organized. i need to procrastinate less. Should “Now” be my word, so I can declutter NOW and do things NOW?

As always, thanks for making me think and ponder and mull…
