Friday’s Fun Find: Counting My Blessings

I promised you the song, “Counting My Blessings” which just happens to be from one of my favorite oldie-but-goldie holiday movies, White Christmas.  I could write a book about how much I love Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney and the song, “Sisters” and the way I always cry at the end of the movie, but I’ll spare you all those words (see how I worked writing in there?) so you can just sit back and enjoy this wonderfulness:

A Thanksgiving Wordle

Do you know about Wordle?

It’s a cool application that takes a whole bunch of words and makes them into a graphic. So it can be a useful tool for writers if you plug in a manuscript. You can “see” the words that are coming up throughout your novel and thus get a good indication if your story is about…say, your main character. Or the word “felt.”

But I used Wordle today with my Gratitude notebook.

Every night, I write down five different things for which I’m grateful. I don’t journal; it’s just a list. Remembering all that I’m thankful for before I rest my weary head has proven to be a wonderful way to end my day. Instead of counting sheep–or worries– I count my blessings (Oh! Do you know that song? I’ll share it on Fun Friday!).

And as I typed up a couple days from each month of the year, I realized that my blessings are family and friends, writing and books, music and singing, and quite a few modern conveniences.

But most especially, the Beneficent Mr. Hall showed up (and you can probably guess his name, if you’re looking at the Wordle).

I wasn’t surprised, “seeing” my blessings, but I thought it might be a nice way to say how much I appreciate all of you, friends, and what a blessing you are in this writer’s life.

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!
