Tooting My Horn Tuesday About Copywriting

I feel just like Aladdin when he rubbed a lamp and a genie appeared to grant his wish.

Just last week, Bill sent a few commercials my way for a listen. Not just any old commercials. These were commercials I’d written and he’d produced while we both worked at the same (now defunct) radio station. For a couple of twentysomethings using, I believe, Marconi’s original recording equipment, we were pretty darn amazing.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. Bill granted my wish when he put those commercials on his podcast. So if you’d like to have a listen to those days in radio when announcers like Bill and copywriters like Cathy C. Hall made crazy commercials, then give a listen here.

Too bad I don’t really have a genie. I might wish for one day at the Big X with old friends (and a young Mr. Hall). Well, at least until the Boss showed up.

  1. I enjoy reading your blog from time to time but I musttake issue with your comment that the radio station you worked at is “defunct.” It may be in “da funk,” and it certainly isn’t what it once was but it is not defunct.I would say it is a “Mickey Mouse” operation. Literally.Keep up the great work.

  2. I’m actually glad to know it’s still alive and kicking its little mousey feet. Because the OTHER radio station I worked at is definitely defunct. I was beginning to think I was the typhoid Mary/Cathy of radio stations.

  3. Um, I was wrong again. Only half of the station is defunct. The other half is still kicking around with a talk format. So I guess I’m not the kiss of death to radio stations at all. I’m just woefully bad at keeping up with old places that employed me!

  4. I’m curious who the first anonymous is? And is WNEX still on the AM dial at 1400, and playing tunes from the Disney Channel, or Disney Radio?

  5. WNEX is still on the AM dial at 1400 and playing RadioDisney. The station was silent for a day or two following the mother of all tornadoes but is back now in all its barely audible glory. As for who I am, look to the East.

  6. Hey Mr. Hall-Maybe you and anonymous should get your own blog? Imagine the fun you could have sending cryptic albeit mysterious messages back and forth! Nahhh. That would be too easy.

  7. Mr. Hall;I am just West of the creek and atop the ridge overlooking the Kohl’s, which would by my calculations be within the confines of the town of the Greeeks and many fall heroes.
