Keeping up with the Highlights Fiction Contest 2010

I’m ending 2009 with a great way to start 2010: The Highlights Fiction Contest!

With three (Yes, three!) prizes worth $1,000 each (Yes, $1,000!) AND no entry fee,  it’s crazy not to give this contest a try. Which is why every year, between January 1 and 31st, I write a story and send it to the folks at Highlights.

I haven’t won this contest yet, but the stories I’ve written for the Highlights Fiction Contest have won in other children’s fiction contests. So, technically, that’s a win, right? Which is why I’m starting my year, thinking about family stories (the theme for this year’s contest). As the saying goes, I’ve got a million of ’em.

I just have to clean them up a bit for the kiddies!

(Find all the details here, and read EVERYTHING! Including a couple of issues of Highlights Magazine for Kids!)

  1. I remember reading that publication, how fun to write stories for old favorites. I’ve never written children stories, it seems daunting to write from that POV. Brave!

  2. Oh, I have a new family story that would be a fun picture book….have to decide whether to enter it or not. Rules/guidelines say winning stories become property of Highlights……not that I know it will win, but one must think positively 🙂

  3. I’m enjoying your blog and all the contest info! Speaking of contests . . . I’m trying to figure out if I should get my hopes up or not. 🙂 Does Highlights send contest rejections out like normal or does everyone find out how they did when they announce winners???

I guess the anticipation is half the fun, though!

    • Thanks for stopping by, Jason! Highlights will send out a letter with the winners-I’m trying to think, maybe towards the end of the summer? They only have three winners; no runners-up, top ten, or anything else. But fingers crossed-you may be one of the winners! (If you are, put in a good word for me, huh? ) 🙂
